Do all of humanity a favor - be authentic.
What does it mean to be authentic?
Authentic: of genuine origin.
1. BE TRUE TO YOURSELF
If your shape you whole life by 'how it looks to others', how will you feel when you find it unsatisfying? Could you possibly enjoy trying to keep this appearance up? Sheesh thats a lot of work for something that doesn't even truly satisfy you. On the other hand, if you do the work to uncover your truth, to uncover how it serves mankind, and then live according to that- think how rewarding for yourself and all of us that could be.
2. YOU HAVE A UNIQUE CONTRIBUTION TO MAKE- SO MAKE IT.
Nobody on this earth is exactly like you. There are many who be similar, but none is exactly like you. Therefore the contributions you make to mankind could be unique in ALL OF HISTORY. Have you ever thought of that? You need to find out what you are and what you want to do, and do it from the most genuine authentic place that you can. It doesn't matter necessarily what you do- it matters how you do it. Do what you do authentically: straight from you. It's important to mankind, no matter what it is.
3. DON'T TRY TO PLEASE EVERYONE- YOU CANNOT.
To be authentic doesn't mean you may stand out. It means you will stand out. Sometimes this will be a pain in the ass, sometimes it will bring you positive attention, sometimes criticism. No matter what, you won't be pleasing everyone. You cannot. However, if you try to please everyone, you will surely fail. And, in addition, you will compromise yourself in a way that could be really difficult to undo. Humanity needs you listen to your good values and motivations and live honestly from that viewpoint. There are those who will benefit from watching you live. And YOU will benefit from looking within yourself and finding a true place to live an act from. There is truth to be uncovered within you. Find it, and live it, no matter who is watching.
4. DON'T TRY AND HIDE YOUR MISTAKES.
You will make mistakes. Living authentically often means living at your edge, and there will be times that you will make mistakes. You may not do something you promised to do. You may break a commitment, or underperform at work or at home. It happens. But here's the thing: if you live authentically, people will benefit from watching you correct your mistakes. People will benefit from watching you try to do better next time. People will benefit by hearing you say that you were wrong. It's not about perfect: there's no such thing. It's about and honest effort at living authentically.
No, at times it will not be easy. It's a higher path, but a necessary one. If only we all felt that this is necessary. What a world we could live in, if each man could begin within himself to live his most authentic life.
